HISTORY OF THE ALDHA CARE PROGRAM

In 2014, as an At-Large Board Member of the Appalachian Long Distance Hikers Association (ALDHA), I was given an opportunity to build a program that would give much needed support to the low cost and donation only hostels along the Appalachian Trail.  In 2014, the term "ALDHA Care" was only an idea by long time ALDHA member Robert "Sly" Sylvester, but I was given full reign to build a hostel support program around that name; thus the ALDHA Care Program was born.  In the course of the next 5 years, I traveled over 20,000 miles along the Appalachian Trail corridor in order to help as many hostels as my ALDHA and personal budget would allow.

By 2020, I had brought the ALDHA Care Program as far as I could, and it was clearly time for someone else to bring new energy and ideas to this valuable "boots on the ground" ALDHA program.  The One Percent Club will continue to support hostels while on the Appalachian Trail, and hopefully the ALDHA Care Program will continue in order to help the dedicated service providers on the AT.

In order to honor the ALDHA Care Program and to demonstrate what this program has meant to me, I have created a proper video history of this valuable AT support program.
